Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Crock made and stamped by "W. Roberts, Binghamton, N.Y."
This is the mark of William Roberts, son-in-law of Noah White of Whites Utica Pottery. He founded a branch of the family business in Binghamton in 1848 and ran it until 1888 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, 71).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and a Tulip Executed with a Slip Cup in Strong Cobalt. This floral was one of Whites signature decorations. Measures 9" tall and 10" wide across the top.
Excellent Condition. A chip inside the rim (1/2"), two on the left handle (1/8", 5/8"), and two on the right handle (3/8" 5/8"). A faint crow's foot behind the right ear that is surface only (closeup). No outer rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. A stone ping on the top of the rim in the making.
