Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "W. Roberts, Binghamton, N.Y."
This is the mark of William Roberts, son-in-law of Noah White of Whites Utica Pottery. He founded a branch of the family business in Binghamton in 1848 and ran it until 1888 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, 71).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Fanciful Orchid Decoration Created with a Slip Cup that Fills the Front. This was a standard decoration for this pottery, a version of that used by the parent company in Utica. Stands 13 1/4" tall.
Very Good Condition. A 1/4" flake in the glaze on the left side of the spout and overall staining from use. No base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
