Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Uncommon 3 Gallon Crock made and stamped by "W. W. & D. Weston, Ellenville, N.Y."
This is the work of William W. and Daniel R. Weston of Ellenville, New York who ran their father Horace's pottery together briefly from 1848 to 1849. Daniel continued at Ellenville, and William started a pottery in Honesdale, Pennsylvania (William C. Ketchum, Jr., Potters and Potteries of New York State, 1650-1900, 2nd ed., pp. 140-141).
This beauty features a Strong Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Large Triple Tulip Decoration Covering the Front. The center stem of 8 leaves hosts a blossom on top then moves left and right to host two more blossoms. Stands 10" tall and 11 1/4" wide across the top.
Good Condition. Eight chips inside the rim (1/4" to 1/2"). Two hairlines from the rim in the front: 3" by the pottery stamp and 3 1/4" to the left of center (closeup). Two chips on the bottom edge (1/2", 3/4"). Fine scattered exfoliation on the right side. No restoration.
