Item 9814
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this uncommon 1 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "Webster & Bergen, North Bay."
North Bay is a small community of the northeastern shore of Lake Oneida, N.Y.
This is the mark of Peel (or Peelee) Webster and, most likely, Symmis Bergen, a doctor who may have funded Webster. They operated their kiln in North Bay in the 1850's (William Ketchum, Jr., Potters and Potteries of New York State, 1650-1900, pp. 281-283).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Swipe, Stenciled 1 Capacity Number, and Two Stenciled Florals-- a Lily and a Rose. Stands 12" tall.
Excellent Condition. Some shallow small chips inside the spout. That's it! No outer spout or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. A 1/4" clay flip from the top of the spout to the handle in the making.
