Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this utterly gorgeous Blue and White Spongeware Water Cooler made by the "Western Stoneware Company."
This crock was made in the early 20th century by the Western Stoneware Company of Monmouth, Illinois (Jim Martin and Bette Cooper, Monmouth-Western Stoneware, p. 21).
This beauty features the Capacity Number, Ice Water Label, and the Company Maple Leaf Brand Stenciled in a Vertical Column, and the rest of the cooler is Sponged in Rich, Deep Cobalt! Measures 11 1/2" tall and 12" wide across the top.
Very Good Condition. A C-shaped hairline by the spigot opening (closeup 1) and a 4 1/2" hairline from the rim in the back (closeup 2). Neither is easily seen outside do to the rich coloration. Minor nibbles aroudn the bottom edge.. No rim chips, stains, or restoration.
