Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "Whites, Utica."

This is the work of Nicholas White and his sons, William and Charles who ran the Whites of Utica family pottery from 1865-1886 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 70-71).

This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Large Fantail Bird Proudly Poised on a Branch.  This was one of Whites signature decorations.  This birdie has 9 breast feathers, 5 wing feathers, and 8 tail feathers.  Stands 14" tall.

Excellent Condition.  Some very light staining on the sides near the bottom, a 1/2" chip on the back bottom, and minor nibbles around the base.  That's it!  No spout chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.  A stone ping to the left of the decoration and three surface-only drying lines on the handle in the making (closeup).
