Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Jug made and stamped "Whites Utica."
This is a mark of Nicholas White and his sons, William and Charles, who ran the family pottery in Utica, N.Y. from 1865-1886 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware , pp. 70-71).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Bird on a Orchid Branch Decoration Created Neatly with a Slip Cup. The birdie has 5 long tailfeathers and the branch sports an orchid blossom. Stands 14 1/4" tall.
Very Good Condition. Two minor 1/8" nibbles on the spout, a narrow 1/2" chip below the decoration and some scattered glaze flakes on the back side as shown. No base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
Comes from a collection western New York where it has resided about 25 years.
