Item 10899
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this impressive 3 Gallon Decorated Preserve Jar made and Stamped by "N. A. White & Son, Utica, N.Y."
This is the work of Nicholas White and his sons, William and Charles who ran the Whites of Utica family pottery from 1865-1886 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware , pp. 70-71).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp, and a Huge Orchid with Four Leaves and a Blossom with Three Petals. Lots of variety in the decoration: The four leaves come in three versions and the three petals are all quite different as well. The orchid is 6 1/2" from tall and 12" wide! A combination of slip cup and brush work was used to make the decoration. Gorgeous cobalt blue throughout. Stands 12 3/4" tall.
Good Condition with Restoration. Trace waterglass staining inside, a 3/8" chip on each handle, and some nibbles on the bottom edge. Restoration for a line from the rim to the center of the center flower (closeup). No rim chips, cracks, or stains.
