Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Jug made and stamped "Whites Utica."
This is a mark of Nicholas White and his sons, William and Charles, who ran the family pottery in Utica, N.Y. from 1865-1886 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware , pp. 70-71).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Bird on a Branch Decoration Created Neatly with a Slip Cup. The birdie has 8 long tailfeathers. Stands 14 3/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. A couple stain runs. Otherwise as made. No chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
Comes from a collection western New York where it has resided about 25 years.
