Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this great 3 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "Whites Utica, N.Y."
This is a mark of Nicholas White and his sons, William and Charles, who ran the family pottery from 1865-1886 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware , pp. 70-71).
This beauty features a Large Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and Equally Large Cobalt Orchid Decoration with Four Leaves and a Drooping Blossom. This was one of Whites signature decorations. This example has great presence and rich cobalt. Stands 16 1/4" tall.
Very Good Condition. A 3/8" chip on the spout on the right side near the handle. That's it! No base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. A few small kiln touches and a surface drying/firing line on the handle (closeup) in the making.
