Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 4 Gallon Crock made and stamped by "Whites, Utica."
This is the work of Nicholas White and his sons, William and Charles who ran the Whites of Utica family pottery from 1865-1886 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 70-71).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp, and a Large Running Bird with a Long Fantail Proudly Poised on a Branch. This was one of Whites signature decorations. This birdie has 10 tailfeathers. Measures 12" tall and 12" wide across the top.
Very Good Condition. A stain on the front rim. That's it! No chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. A 3" drying/firing line inside at the rim in the back in the making that just shows 2" outside (closeups). Some bubbles in the thickest parts of the cobalt in the making.
