Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 4 Gallon Jar made and stamped by "Whites Utica."
This is a work of Nicholas White and his sons, William and Charles, who ran the family pottery from 1865-1886 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 69-70).
This beauty features a Jar Form, Large Size, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and one of White's Signature Decoration-- the Orchid Wreath Shaped Like a Lyre. Base leaves produce two stems with a blossom and a cluster of buds. Stands 13 3/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. Some small chips: inside the rim (3/8", top of the rim in the back 1"), two on the left handle (1/8", 1/4"), three on the right handle (1/2" each), and two on the base (1/4", 1/2"). A few faint stain runs. No hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
