Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful Blue and Gray Embossed Batter Jug.
Dating between 1890 and 1907, this beauty was made by the Whites of Utica Pottery and is a wonderful example of the skill that Whites attained in molded stoneware.
This beauty features 4 Leaves Framing the Spout, 3 Leaves Decorating the Back, Floral Accents at the Handle Holders, Embossed Center Seam, and a Swirl Floral Garland Around the Bottom Half. All the embossed decoration is accented with cobalt. Retains its original handle. Stands 7" tall.
You can see similar examples in Christopher Bensch, The Blue and the Gray: Oneida County Stoneware , p. 22.
Excellent Condition. Some wear on the bottom garland below the spout (possibly in the making), and four chips on the underside of the footer (1/8" to 1/2"). That's it! No rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
