Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 4 Gallon Churn made and stamped by "Whites Utica."

This is a work of Nicholas White and his sons, William and Charles, who ran the family pottery in Utica, NY from 1865-1886 (William Ketchum, American Stoneware , pp. 69-70).

Dating about 1870, this beauty features a Churn Form, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Huge Fantail Running Bird on an Orchid Branch. This is one of White's signature decorations and a perennial favorite with collectors.  An abundance of rich cobalt blue.  The bird is 10" from the tip of his beak to the tip of his tail.  Brilliant cobalt throughout the decoration.  Stands 17" tall!

Good Condition.  Water glass staining inside and some outside,, a hairline from the rim to just below the pottery stamp (closeup), and a 1/2" chip at the base.  No rim chips, cracks, or restoration.
