Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Crock made and stamped by "Whites, Utica."
This is the work of Nicholas White and his sons, William and Charles who ran the Whites of Utica family pottery from 1865-1886 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 70-71).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Large Running Bird with a Long Fantail Proudly Poised on a Branch. This was one of Whites signature decorations. This birdie has 11 tailfeathers. Measures 10 1/2" tall and 11" wide across the top.
Very Good Condition. Chipping under the edge of both handles; a faint surface only X, 1/2" chips, and some light exfoliation on the underside; and a couple small and light stains from use. No rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. Some fine bubbling in the cobalt in the making.
