Item 10306
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this epic 4 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "Whites Utica."
This is a work of Nicholas White and his sons, William and Charles, who ran the family pottery in Utica, N.Y. from 1865-1886 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 69-70).
This beauty features a Larger Size, the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Striking Cobalt Floral. The floral has three leafy stems, each with an orchid blossom and bud. You occasionally see this decoration on smaller jugs. I have never seen it on such a large jug and it looks fantastic. Stands 17" tall.
Excellent Condition. A 1/4" chip on the back of the spout, a narrow 1 1/2" chip on the bottom edge that may be in the making, and a couple small stains. That's it! No hairlines, cracks, or restoration. Typical manufacturing imperfections.
