Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Crock made and stamped by "Whites, Utica."
This is the work of Nicholas White and his sons, William and Charles who ran the Whites of Utica family pottery from 1865-1886 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 70-71).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Large Fantail Bird Poised on a Branch. The bird is looking backward and executed with bright and shiny cobalt. One of the better examples of this signature decoration that you will see. Measures 10" tall and 10 1/2" wide across the top.
Excellent Condition. A 1/2" chip inside the rim and a 1/2" chip cradled by a U-shaped hairline on the bottom of the front left handle terminal (closeup). No outer rim or base chips, body hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
