Item 10471
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Crock made and stamped by "Whites, Utica."
This is the work of Nicholas White and his sons, William and Charles who ran the Whites of Utica family pottery from 1865-1886 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 70-71).
This beauty features a Heavily Grooved Rim for Ease of Tying a Cover over the Top, the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Large Freehand Floral Executed with a Slip Cup. This was one of Whites signature decorations. I have always been fond of it because it looks like a butterfly has landed on the left side of a stem and blossom. Measures 9 1/2" tall and 9 1/2" wide across the top.
Very Good Condition. A 5" vertical hairline to the right of the decoration (closeup), and three 1/4" chips on the bottom edge in the back. No rim chips, cracks, or restoration.
