Item 9741
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Jar made and stamped by "Whites Utica."
This is a work of Nicholas White and his sons, William and Charles, who ran the family pottery from 1865-1886 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 69-70).
It was sold to me by a 99 year old lady pushed in a wheelchair at a recent show. She said it was time to pass this treasure on to a new owner. I gladly bought it because it is so unusual.
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and a Large Brushed Cobalt Orchid Framed on Both Sides with a Couple more Squiggle Lines Below. The decorator was waiting for his pizza lunch order and decided to spend a little more time on this jar than most! Stands 10 1/2" tall.
Very Good Condition. A faint 1 1/4" hairline from the rim to the right handle (closeup) and a 1/4" chip on the same handle. Otherwise no rim or base chips, cracks, stains, or restoration.
