Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Rare 5 Gallon Churn stamped "Worcester."
This is the pottery mark of William Stone who made pottery in Worcester, Massachusetts from 1856 to 1858 when he was bought out by Frank Norton and Frederick Hancock. His stoneware is rarely seen (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 52).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp and a Very Detailed Floral Executed with a Slip Cup. Lines, dots, and curls going everywhere! Stands 18 1/2" tall.
Very Good Condition. A narrow 1/2" chip inside the rim, a 2" hairline above the left handle that is only 1" inside (closeup 1), and two surface-only Y-shaped craze lines--one on the right side (closeup 2) and one on the back (closeup 3). No outer rim or base chips, cracks, stains, or restoration. Some small stone pings, two in the decoration, in the making.
