    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this fantastic 2 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "Wm. E. Warner, West Troy."

     

    This is the mark of William E. Warner who ran a pottery in West Troy, N.Y. in the 1840's and 1850's (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 67-68). 

     

    This beauty features the Impressed Pottery Stamp and Capacity Number with Cobalt Wash, and a Wonderfully Detailed Bird on a Branch executed with a Slip Cup.  The bird is confidently poised with a worm in its beak.  He or she is decorated profusely, sporting a neck with dotted collar, back with dots, underbelly with swirls, and tailfeathers with dots.  The branch bears many little leaves and blossoms.  All the cobalt is bright and shiny.  Stands 12 1/2" tall. 

     

    Excellent Condition.  A vertical in-body hairline below the handle as shown.  No base chips, cracks, stains, or restoration.  A chip on top of the spout where it stuck to another piece in the firing.
