Item 6303
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Little Yellow Ware Pipkin or Bean Pot from the mid-19th century.
It was made by either Jeffords Pottery or Yellow Rock Pottery, both of Philadelphia. It came in 4 sizes, with the smallest one being the rarest. This is the smallest size.
See a similar one and discussion in the picture above from Lisa McAllister and John Michel, Collector's Guide to Yellow Ware, Book 1, p. 60.
This beauty features Ribbed Sides with Alternating Wide and Thin Ribs and a Mellow Yellow Coloration. Comes with the original lid in the same pattern with floral knob. The base is 4 3/8" tall.
Very Good Condition. The base has a 1/4" chip inside the rim, two chips on the bottom right side of the handle (closeup), and some small flakes on the underside. No outer rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. Some glaze skips on the interior bottom and drying lines around the handle terminals in the making. The lid has a minor 1/2" ping on the underside of the seating ring (closeup). Otherwise as made.
